This fireplace is designed to recess into 2x4 wall framing, provided the opening has at least 1/2 inch of wall sheathing. A 2x6 cavity has more depth than the unit needs, so it will also fit, but 2x4 is the documented minimum — you don't need to build out to 2x6 specifically for this model.

Recessed installation sets the fireplace flush into a framed opening in a finished wall, so only the trim is visible. Wall mounting uses the included wall mounting bracket to attach the unit directly to the face of an existing wall, with no cutting into the wall required.
