Can this replace an existing wood-burning fireplace?

Yes. The INS-FM-30 is built as a retrofit for existing wood or masonry fireplace openings, so there's no venting, gas line, or chimney work involved.

Can I run the flame without the heater on?

Yes, flame and heat are controlled independently, so you can run the flame year-round without the heater engaged.

Does the INS-FM-30 need to be hardwired, or can it just be plugged in?

Either works. It's hardwire-ready for a clean built-in install, but it can also run on a standard plug. The plug location is on the left side of the unit, so check clearance there before installing.

What's the difference between the remote and the Wi-Fi app control?

The included remote handles flame color and intensity from the room. The Wi-Fi app extends that same control to your phone from anywhere, useful for scheduling the fireplace on before you get home.

Can I swap the included log set for fire glass or other media?

Yes. The insert ships with a decorative log set standard, but decorative fire glass and EMBER or FIRE & ICE media kits are available separately if you want a different look.

What opening size do I need for the INS-FM-30?

The unit measures 19" H x 29.38" W x 8.5" D. Measure your existing firebox opening against those dimensions before ordering, since this is designed as a flush-mount retrofit rather than a new framed opening.
