Frequently Asked Questions

What does the "Platinum" name add over the standard SimpliFire Allusion?

Platinum steps up from the base Allusion with selectable flame themes (rather than just flame color options) with adjustable brightness, an added bag of ceramic stones alongside the crystal media, and a larger size range that tops out at 72" instead of 60". One trade-off: the standard Allusion ships with its wall bracket included, while the Platinum's bracket is sold separately as an accessory.

Do I need to buy the wall bracket separately to wall-mount this fireplace?

Yes, if you're not doing a fully recessed install. This unit is engineered for recessed installation into a framed 2x6 wall opening, and the box does not include a wall bracket. The manufacturer's install manual notes that an additional wall mount kit must be ordered for wall-mounted setups — use the SimpliFire Wall Bracket for Allusion/Allusion Platinum, sized to match your model (50-inch or 60/72-inch).

Can this be set up as a freestanding fireplace instead of built into a wall?

For the 50-inch size, yes — the Boyd Build-Out Kit for Allusion Platinum/Edge 50-Inch is a self-contained surround that lets you set the fireplace up without cutting into a wall, useful for rentals or rooms where a permanent recess isn't practical. That kit is currently only offered for the 50-inch model; the 60-inch and 72-inch sizes don't have a matching build-out kit, so plan on a recessed or wall-mounted install for those.

Are the electrical requirements different across the 50", 60", and 72" sizes?

No. SimpliFire's installation manual and spec sheets show the same electrical configuration across all three sizes: a 15 amp, 120V/60Hz circuit rated for 5,000 BTU heat output, wired either as hardwire or via the included plug-in cord (NEMA 5-15P). A dedicated circuit isn't strictly required but is recommended in the manual to avoid nuisance breaker trips, and any bathroom installation needs GFCI protection.

What does the warranty actually cover?

Per Hearth & Home Technologies' (SimpliFire's parent company) limited warranty for electric appliances, this fireplace carries 2 years of coverage on glass and electrical components (heating element, blower, remote/wall switch, wire harnesses, and similar parts) and 1 year on all other parts and labor. Coverage starts at the date of installation, or no later than 24 months after the unit shipped from the factory if installation date can't be verified. The warranty transfers to a new owner if the fireplace stays at its original install site, though the coverage period itself doesn't extend or reset.

How much of a room will this actually heat?

SimpliFire's owner's manual is explicit that this appliance is 'not intended for use as a primary heat source' and should not be factored into residential heating calculations — it's a supplemental, 5,000 BTU electric heater built for ambiance first. The manual doesn't publish a specific square-footage heating rating for the Allusion Platinum, so treat it as warming the immediate area around the unit rather than carrying a whole room, and don't rely on it as your only heat source in a space.
